Summer 2023 Anime Tierlist: Passing Judgement on Seasonal Anime Offerings

As the summer season comes to an end, it's the perfect time for a tier list to vent my frustration about the numerous disappointing shows I watched this season while I wait for Fall animes to start. If you were waiting on any these shows because you weren't sure if they're worth watching or for some other reason, then maybe this list will help you decide if you want to give them a try or not. There were alot of shows airing in summer season so if you don't see a show on the list it's because either I wasn't interested in it or I hadn't watched the previous seasons (Rurouni Kenshin, Duke of Death, Bleach etc). Also, this is primarily a tierlist so I'll try to keep it brief

Disclaimer:

• This tier list is EXTREMELY subjective
• If you're triggered by someone having different opinions than yours then this might not be for you
• My opinions regarding mainstream and/or popular shows are usually very different from the general masses. Just something to keep in mind
• The order of shows in a single tier does not mean anything
• Do not and I mean, DO NOT judge how I rank Bsd. It's biased!

Now, without further ado, here's my summer anime tier list:

Liar Liar: Trust me, this is fun... As long as you turn off your brain and try not to think too much about it. This probably shouldn't be so high up but I don't know why, I just really enjoyed it despite the skills and abilities being too convuluted and rules of games going over my head most of the time

Link Click Season 2: EVERY SINGLE EPISODE was so good and had me excited for the next one. Note to self, do not watch next season (if/when we do get one) weekly because every episode ended at a cliffhanger and it was so infuriating

Mononogatari Season 2: They did a really good job integrating the new characters and developing the characters from season 1. Though, I think I enjoyed season 1 more than season 2 since season 1 was more balanced whereas season 2 felt more focused on the action

The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: Villainess animes are my guilty pleasures, that's all I have to say

Undead Girl Murder Farce: I love detective, mystery shows. Throw in a goofy, oddball MC and it gets even better. Miyano Mamoru was just the cherry or top

Sweet Reincarnation & Saint Cecilia: These were just nice wholesome shows

Sugar apple: There's a way of making a show interesting without creating more and more problems for the MC

My Happy Marriage: This would've been much higher because I really loved this during the first half but the second half ruined it for me

Horimiya: I would've preferred if they animated everything chronologically. It was decent but felt very incomplete due to the lack of a proper chain of events

Blue Orchestra: Some episodes about the 3rd years felt very random since they didn't get much focus aside from those specific episodes but something like that is bound to happen since an orchestra has so many members and not all of them are going to get screentime or character development. The use of CG during the performances kept throwing me off but aside from that this was really enjoyable. The music was good and the show did a good job of portraying very realistic topics. Looking forward to season 2

Scrificial Princess: THIS should've gotten the hype that Odd taxi and Beastars got. Instead, this is underrated, neglected and flew under everyone's radar

Zom100: Something about the characters seeing people get zombified and then continuing on like nothing happened does not sit right with me. Aside from that, it's a very different take on a Zombie apocalypse and is kinda enjoyable

Spy Classroom Season 2: This season was much better than the first one. Portraying characters as naive and weak only to later show that it was all planned is cliche but I think it was well executed

Devil's a Part-Timer Season 2 Part 2: I don't know what on Earth is going on in these new seasons. What I do know, is that they're very stale in comparison to the first season which was very fun and enjoyable

Reborn as a Vending Machine: Unexpectedly, for all the trolling and hate I saw when this got announced, it actually was not that bad

Masamune's Revenge R: I knew from the start that the revenge wasn't gonna happen but to think they still dragged this out for 2 whole seasons is insane

Masterful Cat is Depressed Again: Wholesome. Maybe I would've enjoyed it more if I was a cat person

Reign of Seven Spellblades: Yeah, I honestly have no clue what this show was trying to do

Helck: Not my kind of humour

Great Cleric: Another generic Isekai

Rent a Girlfriend Season 3: We're still getting this garbage? Actually, the real question should be why am I still watching this

Gene of AI: I actually had very high hopes for this so seeing it going nowhere with the actual plot was kinda disappointing

Dreaming Boy is a Realist: Interesting premise, needed better execution

Yohane the Parhelion: My little pony: friendship is magic, music anime version

Ryza's Atelier: The pace was way too slow

Am I Actually the Strongest, Unique Skill Makes me OP, Level 1 Demon Lord, Ayaka, Classroom of Heroes, Temple, The Girl I like forgot her glasses, Jobless Reincarnation: Hot garbage, all of these

That's it for this tierlist. Again, these are my personal opinions. Overall, I think it was a decent season with more hits than missed opportunities. I'm looking forward to Fall season. I'll share my thoughts and early impressions on all the shows I'll be watching once they're all out as I'm still waiting for a couple of them to start airing. Feel free to share the shows you enjoyed this season and your thoughts on them in the comments and what shows are you looking forward to watching in Fall season?
